Antigenicity of the Male Accessory Sexual Glands

Abstract
Appraisal of male fertility has mainly been based on study of testicular antigenicity and cellular portion of semen. In contrast, there have been relatively few immunologic studies on male accessory sexual glands.
The purpose of this study was to observe the immunopathologic effect of the homologous seminal vesicular antigen on seminal vesicle, and the cross reaction of the seminal vesicular antigen against testis, epididymis, and prostate in rats. Fructose of seminal vesicular fluid and serum acid phosphatase were also measured in immunized rats and normal control rats.
The results were as follows:
1) The tubules of the seminal vesicles and prostates were similarly atrophied by destruction with degenerative changes of epithelium and an increase in the fibrous stroma with mononuclear cells infiltration.
2) The cross reaction of the seminal vesicular antigen against the epididymal and testicular tissues was not demonstrated.
3) The fructose level of the seminal vesicular fluid in the immunized rats (96.9 mg/dl) was significantly lower than that of the normal control group(140. 4 mg/dl) (p<0. 05). The serum acid phosphatase level of the immunized rats was 2.14 BU/L, and that of the normal control rats 1.84 BU/L. There was no statistically significant difference.
